New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi On Friday, Chief Secretaries of State Governments were urged to depute the bright and best officers in the districts of border areas for at least 2-3 years in view of the emerging geo-political situation. He also suggested that other senior officers should visit the border areas more frequently, reports Dipak Dash,
Chairing the second conference of state chief secretaries in Delhi, the PM, TOI learnt, urged top bureaucrats from all states and union territories to take concrete steps against drug menace among youth, a major cause of concern has been made. Sources said that the Deputy National Security Consultant Vikram Misri Made a detailed presentation on the geopolitical situation and suggested how states also need to monitor activities in cross-border areas and take necessary steps.

Modi spent the entire day at the conference and watched all the presentations made on various issues including “Five Years of Goods and Services Tax (GST) – Learnings and Experiences”, emphasis on MSMEs and the economy.
sources said Modi Said that posting best officers in border areas would help them to have a better understanding of the issues. Officials said the PM’s message is significant as till now postings in border areas have been seen as a ‘punishment’ and officers often try to move out of these areas. “Once we have the mechanism where other senior officers also keep visiting these areas and spend days there, it will no longer be seen as punitive posting. It will also ensure more economic and social activities in these areas which are now witnessing migration,” said a senior official.
It may be recalled that while visiting Mana, believed to be the last Indian village on the India-China border in Uttarakhand, the PM had said that “It (Mana) is not the last but the first village… For me, every village is the border.” It is the first village of the country.The people living on the border become the strongest defenders of the country.
