Presidential election: Draupadi Murmu will file her nomination papers today

NDA’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu will file her nomination papers today. Before filing the nomination, he called on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday. Arriving at the Delhi airport to a rousing welcome, 64-year-old Murmu was received by Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda and several BJP workers.

She is the first presidential candidate from Odisha from a major political party or coalition. She continued to break barriers and was the first woman governor of Jharkhand. She served as the Governor of Jharkhand from 2015 to 2021.

Draupadi Murmu’s political career

He started his political career as the Vice President of Rairangpur NAC. Draupadi Murmu was a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly from Rairangpur between 2000 and 2004. As a minister, he held the portfolios of Transport and Commerce, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries. He again served as an MLA in the Odisha Legislative Assembly from 2004 to 2009.

In 2007, the Odisha Legislative Assembly honored him with the ‘Neelkanth Award’ for the best MLA. He served as a junior assistant in the Department of Irrigation and Power between 1979 and 1983. She has held several organizational positions in the BJP and was the Vice President of the State ST Morcha in 1997.

Draupadi Murmu was a national executive member of the BJP’s ST Morcha from 2013 to 2015 and served as the BJP district chief of Mayurbhanj (West) in 2010 and 2013. Between 2006 and 2009, she was the chief of the ST Morcha of the BJP in Odisha. She was a member of the National Executive of BJP ST Morcha from 2002 to 2009.

The electoral college for the Presidential election consists of 543 members of the Lok Sabha, 233 Rajya Sabha and 4,033 members of the Legislative Assemblies. The total value of the votes of MPs is 5,43,200, and that of members of the Legislative Assembly is 5,43,231, a total of 1086431.

The NDA is the largest group in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, but it still needs the support of smaller parties and independents to win. BJP is in power in 18 states. It has got 5,32,351 votes out of 1086431 votes.
