Prime Minister Narendra Modi launches land title deeds distribution drive for over 52,000 nomads in north Karnataka Bengaluru News – Times of India

Kalaburagi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched the distribution of “hakku patras” (land title deeds) to over 52,000 members of the nomadic Lambani (Banjara) tribe in five districts of northern Karnataka.
Addressing a public meeting in Malkhed, the PM said, “It is a big day for the people of Banjara (Lambani nomadic) community as more than 50,000 people will get their roof through Hakku Patra”.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister distributed five Hakku letters to five nomadic couples.
He said that this hakku patra would secure the future of thousands of people living in “thandas” (Lambani dwellings) in Kalaburagi, Bidar, Yadgiri, Raichur and Vijayapura districts.
Way back in 1993, ‘Thandas’ was recommended to be given the status of a revenue village, but the political party which was in power for the longest time used Lambanis as a vote bank and never allowed these backward families to live. did not try to improve the situation, he claimed.
Modi said, “Those living in Thandas had to struggle for their rights for a long time and faced many difficulties. They had to wait for a long time.” “But now the gloomy atmosphere is changing. I want to assure the Banjara mothers that their son (Modi) is sitting in Delhi.”
