‘Bale of Lies’

Members of NYC, the youth wing of the Nationalist Congress Party, barged into the theater premises shouting slogans demanding a ban on the film. He alleged that the film fueled the divisive propaganda of the Sangh Parivar. The police prevented them from entering the theater and later removed them from the site.

Activists of the fraternity movement marched to the theater around 11.15 am. He dismissed initial claims made by the makers of the film that around 32,000 women in Kerala were converted to Islam and trafficked to join the Islamic State (IS). Activists alleged that the film was a bundle of lies aimed at dividing the society in the name of religion.

BJP leaders participated in the show

The district leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party were among those who saw the inauguration programme. Bookings for the film were available in only two multiplexes and one theater each in Ernakulam district. Though it was initially listed, screenings at two other multiplexes in the city were cancelled.

Representatives of the United Federation of Film Exhibitors of Kerala had earlier said that they would not oppose the screening of the film, especially in view of its clearance by the Central Board of Film Certification.
