Protesting Activists Detained: Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal | Mangaluru News – Times of India

MANGALURU: The Mangaluru City police detained members of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal who were protesting the FIR filed against Mangaluru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath, Mangaluru City North MLA Dr Y Bharath Shetty, VHP leader Sharan Pumpwell, corporators Sandeep Garodi, Bharath Kumar and another unidentified person in connection with the protest held in front of St Gerosa English Higher Primary School last week.
The protest was held near the Mini Vidhan Soudha on Monday and the protestors who alleged that a false case was registered against the leaders were detained when they attempted to march towards the Mangaluru Police Commissioner’s office to submit a memorandum, urging him to withdraw the case. The police who were well prepared, stopped the protestors from moving forward by placing barricades. The angered Hindu activists attempted to push through the barricades while chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’. This led to a confrontation between the police and the protestors, resulting in several protestors being detained in police vans and jeeps, while a few were sent home.
VHP’s Prantha Sahakaryadarshi, Sharan Pumpwell has condemned the district administration’s action of detaining activists, who were staging a stir demanding action against those who insulted Sri Ram, and withdrawal of cases registered against leaders who shouted ‘Jai Sri Ram’. He warned that the protest would be intensified if a case was not registered against the school teacher.
