LUDHIANA: In a major development in the ongoing issue of advance electricity bills demanded by Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), a delegation of city traders visited the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC) office on Thursday. The businessmen wanted to meet the chairman of the commission but due to his unavailability they pasted a poster of their demands on the wall of PSERC.
Giving more details, Jaswinder Singh ThukraliPresident of Janata Nagar Small Scale Manufacturers Association, who was leading the delegation, said, “Our campaign against Advance Consumption Deposit (ACD) imposed on us by PSPCL is on. Today as a last resort to resolve this issue we went to Chandigarh to meet PSERC Chairman Vishwajit Khanna and urge them to take necessary action to cancel the orders of charging ACD From us. But on reaching his office, we came to know that he is abroad and will not be available for the next two weeks. Since the Speaker is the competent authority to decide the matter, but the issue of advance bills sent to us because of his being abroad cannot be resolved till then.”
Thukral also said, “Therefore we have pasted a memorandum of our demand to withdraw ACD on the wall of PSERC office today in protest against PSERC for allowing PSPCL to run freely and loot us. Our request to the Chief Minister Is Bhagwant Singh Mann That he should take immediate cognizance of this issue of ACD next week, otherwise industrialists will intensify our agitation and soon there will be protests outside the houses of MLAs and ministers.
According to Balvir Singh Raja, another member of the delegation, “The order of PSPCL to pay the bills in advance for 45 days to the industry is giving us sleepless nights as our expenses have gone up a lot due to the already rising inflation and At present we have such a huge financial burden. It is impossible to pay. Moreover, in case of non-payment of these charges, another threat of action by PSPCL is looming on us and we are feeling helpless.
