Pune fire: Fierce fire at Timber Market in Pune’s Bhawani Peth, 10 godowns gutted | Pune News – Times of India

Pune: There are about 10 big warehouses of plywood, timber and laminates in the Timber Market area off Pune’s Nehru Road. Bhavani PethEveryone got scorched in the fire that started around 4.15 am on Thursday. No person was injured in the incident.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control around 9 a.m.
“We received an emergency call at 4.30 am. The fire broke out in a godown, which is made of tin sheets and iron rods and some also have concrete walls,” the city fire brigade President Devendra Potfode told TOI.
“So far 10 godowns have been gutted in this incident. The wood, plywood, laminates and other materials kept in these godowns have added fuel to the fire.”
“The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and it is not yet known from which godown the fire broke out,” he said.
Potfode said, “A slum is located nearby, and we have shifted more than 10 LPG cylinders from the slums of the slum to a safer place to prevent further spread of the fire.”
“Besides, a Pune Municipal Corporation school is located nearby. The flames were high and wooden benches of some classrooms were also damaged in the incident,” he said.
“Around 30 fire engines and some water tankers are working to douse the fire,” he said.
“It was a brigade call and all fire tenders rushed to the spot. We successfully doused the fire and prevented it from spreading to Wasti and other areas,” he said.
