Punjab: AAP MP Raghav Chadha appointed chairman of advisory panel

The Punjab government has appointed Aam Aadmi Party MP Raghav Chadha as the chairman of a temporary advisory panel – a move that has drawn sharp reactions from opposition parties. Chadha, a Rajya Sabha MP, has been appointed as the chairman of a temporary committee that will advise the government on matters of public importance. Party sources gave this information here on Monday.

The AAP-led government had notified the committee a few days back to much skepticism of opposition parties, which questioned its legality. As per the notification, the temporary committee headed by a chairperson and run through the members shall not be entitled to any compensation, remuneration or allowances.

Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Monday slammed the Bhagwant Mann-led government, alleging that it gives too much power to Chadha through the committee. Waring said appointing Chadha as the chairman of the advisory committee was tantamount to making him the chief minister of Punjab.

“Punjabis did not vote for this change. Bhagwant Mann ji appears to have handed over the contract to the Punjab government, Warring said in a tweet. The Shiromani Akali Dal also took a dig at the AAP-led government, saying the move formally brought show manager Raghav Chadha on the stage.

Puppet, puppet and puppet. The circus master lifts the curtain while ceremonially placing the show manager @raghav_chadha on the stage. In fact CM Chadha formally taking over as Controller General is not news for Pbis. They always knew @bhagwantman who pulled the strings in a puppet dance. The party said in a tweet that now even the fig leaf of an elected government is removed, the toothless tigers on which the Pbis had placed their trust are stripped naked.
