There will now be a vigilance inquiry into the sports kit scam in the government of former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi. On the recommendation of Education Minister Gurmeet Meet Hare, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has approved the Vigilance probe. Preliminary investigation has revealed that regularities were observed during the transfer of Rs 3000 to the accounts of Punjab players in November 2021. It is believed that this is a big scam, in which many officers can be blamed.
In November 2021, the Channi government had approved to provide sports kits to 8900 players. 3 thousand rupees were transferred directly to the account by the department for the kit to every player. This amount was around Rs 2.67 crore. The Sports Department asked the players to return the checks and drafts in the name of some firms on the very second day after the funds for the sports kits reached the accounts.
After this the sports kits given to the players were very poor in terms of quality. This amount was transferred to the players’ account just before the election code of conduct came into force. The previous government is surrounded by these questions.
Education Minister raised questions
Sports Minister of the Aam Aadmi Party government, Gurmeet Meet Hare has raised the question as to why the government did not invite tenders for the purchase of sports kits. This leads to suspicion that there was negligence in the sports kit case.

After the scam was exposed, it has also been revealed in the preliminary investigation of the department that written orders were not given to withdraw the amount from the players. On oral orders, checks and drafts were taken from the players through the District Sports Officers for the amount deposited in their account.
