Despite being long (the 86-minute finale was practically a movie) — and I know, I thought Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3was away – Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story Overwhelmingly binge-watchable and weirdly touchy-feely. since we saw his presidency in tons bridgertonQueen Charlotte (Golda Rochelle) has us captivated.

As an alternate history of the Regency period, the show, based on the novels by Julia Quinn, featured a woman of color as queen and people of color holding high office and moving into high society. It certainly had an interesting story of how it came to be – a prequel waiting to be made, in fact. What the public wants, the public gets and so you get Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Storywhich is set in two timelines – 1814, when the death of the Queen’s only legitimate grandson creates a crisis in the succession, and 1761, when 17-year-old Charlotte (India Amartefio) arrives in a small country in Europe to be married. The charming but quick-tempered King of England, George (Cory Mylchrist).

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story

Season: 1

episode: 6

Order: 53 – 86 minutes

creator: Shonda Rhimes

mold: India Amarteifio, Adjoa Andoh, Michelle Fairley, Ruth Gemmell, Corey Mylchrist, Golda Rochewell, Arsema Thomas, Sam Clemet, Freddie Dennis, Hugh Sachs as Brimsley, Julie Andrews

Story: How Charlotte came to England as a teenager to marry King George and became a formidable monarch in later years

The switches between the two timelines are seamless and it’s a delight to watch the grand motherland shine through in the young queen negotiating her way in a new land, while attempting the “Great Experiment”. While Charlotte has her rivals including the Dowager Princess of Wales and the King’s mother, Augusta (Michelle Fairley, game of Thrones Catelyn Stark), the King’s doctor Munro (Guy Henry), and the Prime Minister, Lord Bute (Richard Cunningham), are also her allies.

Agatha (Arsima Thomas), the intimidating Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh) of 1814, is making her way through the treacherous waters of polite society, trying to be color-blind, and befriends Charlotte. There’s also Charlotte’s secretary, Brimsley (Sam Clemet), who will always be five steps behind his queen, wishing only the best for his feisty monarch. really one of the lovely things about queen charlotte 50 years later, Brimsley (Hugh Sachs) is still five steps behind the Queen, with the Queen still having steady influence behind her back.

The mini-series also tells the story of Violet Reid (Connie Jenkins-Gregg), an intelligent, beautiful young woman who grows up to become the Dowager Viscountess Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell). We know where Eloise got her penchant for Blue Stocking. In 1814, Lady Whistledown (voiced by Julie Andrews) continues to give running commentary of all the scandals.

The grand, infinitely sad and passionate love between George and Charlotte, rife with mental health issues and tragedies, is interspersed with little love stories that are equally tender and poignant. The love between Agatha and Violet’s father Lord Ledger (Keir Charles), Agatha and Charlotte’s brother Adolphus IV (Tunji Kasim, from Ned) cannot be talked about. Nancy Drew), and one between Brimsley and the King’s secretary Reynolds (Freddie Dennis).

There are also the widows, Violet and Agatha, who deal with their loss differently. While Violet mourns her husband in church, Agatha, who despised her husband, Lord Danbury (Cyril Nri), looks for ways to get revenge for all his petty cruelties.

In addition to the giant wigs, clothes, jewelry (lavish) and music (the pop standard set for classical music), bridgerton also known for steamy sex and queen charlotte Doesn’t disappoint in that department either (even though that garden analogy was a bit much…) The acting is pitch-perfect, with each character playing their part with ease. A stunning feast for the senses, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton StoryShould everything be a prequel?
