Raghav Chadha’s suspension revoked by Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha’s suspension from Rajya Sabha has been revoked by Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. Raghav Chadha’s suspension was revoked on the motion moved by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP GVL Narasimha Rao.

Raghav Chadha was suspended from the Upper House on August 11 for “breach of privilege” during the Monsoon Session after complaints. Raghav Chadha was accused of forging the signatures of five Rajya Sabha MPs in a motion related to the Delhi Services Bill in the Rajya Sabha. The Bill was passed by both Houses.

Raghav Chadha was accused of not obtaining the consent of five Rajya Sabha MPs before including their names in a select committee. Not only this, Raghav Chadha also allegedly forged their signatures on the motion.

Raghav Chadha has issued a statement as his Rajya Sabha suspension was revoked and thanked Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. “On 11th August, I was suspended from the Rajya Sabha. I went to the Supreme Court for the revocation of my suspension. Supreme Court took cognizance of this and now my suspension has been revoked after 115 days…I am happy that my suspension has been roved and I want to thank the Supreme Court and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar.”

Raghav Chadha also said that he remained suspended from the Rajya Sabha for over 115 days and during that time, he couldn’t raise people’s issues in the House. “I remained suspended from Rajya Sabha for 115 days. [I] couldn’t question the government, raise people’s issues for those days in House.”

“Received lots of love, and blessings from people during 115 days of suspension. Thankful for all the love and support,” Raghav Chadha said.

Raghav Chadha had earlier termed the suspension patently illegal and without the authority of the law. Faced with days of suspension, Raghav Chadha had moved to the top court, challenging his indefinite suspension from the Upper House.

However, the Supreme Court asked Raghav Chadha to meet Jagdeep Dhankhar and tender an unconditional apology.
