“When Narendra Modi When he became the Prime Minister, he said that every year two crore youths would be given jobs. (But) unemployment today is the highest it has been in 40 years.”

Gandhi said that in the fields of healthcare and education, the government was supposed to build institutions, but instead all of them were being privatised.

He said, “We don’t want such an India, we don’t want unemployed India, we don’t want poor India, we want justice.”

He appealed to the people to give at least 150 seats (out of a total of 224) to the Congress in the elections. Gandhi said, “Don’t give them (BJP) more than 40 seats.” Congress was not given a chance to contest elections by the ruling party as it was not involved in corruption.

Earlier, interacting with sugarcane farmers at Ramdurg in Belagavi district, he said that India’s progress depends on the progress of its farmers, laborers and small businesses.

Gandhi said that his interactions with farmers in Karnataka and across India made him aware of “the trials brought upon him by the corrupt BJP regime, which is only focused on helping 2-3 of its ‘friends'”.

He said farmers and small business owners should be protected and empowered, not attacked with “flawed policies like BJP’s GST”. “The Congress party is determined to write a story of development that brings prosperity to all,” he said.

Gandhi said, “Karnataka is all set to bring about this change.”
