Bhubaneswar: Indian Rail For the convenience of poor passengers, two trains with only general coaches have been started.
These trains have been introduced in Visakhapatnam-Rangapara North Junction via Bhubaneswar and Puri-Udhna (Surat) via Bhubaneswar routes.
In a recent exclusive interview to TOI, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav To meet the rush, had talked about running only a few trains with general coaches. He also discussed increasing the number of general coaches in some important trains.
Keeping in mind the suggestion of the Railway Minister, Railways has started Puri-Udhna (Surat) Jan-Sadharan Weekly Unreserved Special Train (08465) from Wednesday. It leaves Puri every Wednesday at 2.55 pm. In the return direction, this train leaves Udhna every Thursday at 11 pm. It will stop at important stations including Khurda Road, Bhubaneswar, Dhenkanal. Talcher Road, angle, RairakholSambalpur City, Jharsuguda Road and IB.
The second train Visakhapatnam-Rangapara North Jansadharan Special (08562/08561) will leave Visakhapatnam at 12.10 hrs on Sunday and reach Rangapara North in Assam at 10.00 hrs on Monday. In the return direction, it will leave Rangapara North at 5.15 am on Tuesday and reach Visakhapatnam at 3.35 pm on Wednesday.
Similarly, more general coaches have been added to overcrowded trains to help migrant workers and people traveling to different places in less time. They can get seats at least. In the Bahanaga train tragedy, the general coaches were full of migrant workers. Most of the deaths occurred in the general coaches of the Coromandel Express and the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express.
“We have added two additional general coaches each in Bhubaneswar-Balangir Intercity and Bhubaneswar-Bangiriposi Express and one general coach each in Dhauli Express, Bhubaneswar-Pondicherry Express, Bhubaneswar-Rameswaram Express and Visakhapatnam-Lingampalli train. We may add more general coaches in other trains keeping in view the rush, said a railway official.
In addition, the Railways has extended the special train services of Santragachi-Puri-Santragachi Special, Bhanjpur (Baripada)-Puri-Bhanjpur Special and Visakhapatnam-Banaras-Vishakhapatnam Special.
Railways has also decided to give experimental stoppage of some trains at various stations. Bhubaneshwar-Nayagarh Town-Bhubaneshwar Service Express will stop at Lingaraj Mandir Road station from 15th July.
