The police-administration team arrived on Saturday to demolish the Sarva Seva Sangh building in Varanasi. Seeing the police with bulldozers, the union workers started protesting. The officers vacated the premises in 3 hours. Now the books kept in the library are being removed.

After the administration’s warning to vacate the premises, the Sangh worker had a scuffle with the police. The main gate was locked. The police have taken the protesting people into custody and sent them to the police line. According to ADM City, the demolition process will begin only after the premises are vacated. In view of the protest, the force of 12 police stations of Varanasi has reached the spot. In this matter, the former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh said – The action of the administration is a matter of shame for the country.

In the ongoing dispute between the Sarva Seva Sangh and the Northern Railway on the ownership rights of the land, District Magistrate S. Rajalingam has given a decision in favor of the Railways after the hearing. Describing the construction of Sarva Seva Sangh as illegal, he has considered the land as the property of Northern Railway. The Northern Railway administration fixed the date of June 30, 2023 for the demolition of the Sarva Seva Sangh building, but opposition to this decision started. The office bearers of the Sarva Seva Sangh filed a petition in the High Court against the administration’s decision, which was rejected by the High Court.

Sarva Seva Sangh, a national organization of Gandhian thought, was established in March 1948 under the chairmanship of Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India. Under the guidance of Vinoba Bhave, the foundation of Sarva Seva Sangh Bhavan was laid about 62 years ago. Its purpose was to propagate the ideas of Mahatma Gandhi. National Minister of Sarva Seva Sangh Dr. Anand Kishore told that in the year 1960, efforts started to establish Gandhi Vidya Sansthan on this land. The first part of the building was built in 1961. Jai Prakash Narayan himself stayed here in 1962.

Lands bought in 3 times in 11 years
According to President Chandan Pal, on the initiative of Acharya Vinoba Bhave, Sarva Seva Sangh bought these lands from the Railways in 1960, 1961 and 1970. There are three registered sale deed signed by Divisional Engineer Northern Railway, Lucknow. This building could be completed in 3 times. As the land was bought, the building went on being built. By about 1971, the construction here was completed in 3 times. It is claimed that this building was built from the donations made by the Gandhi Memorial Fund and Jayaprakash Narayan.

Controversy started in 2007, the building was locked
After this everything was fine till 2007. Meanwhile, the Railways started looking for land for some of its projects. In the old documents, the land on which the Sarva Seva Sangh was formed was found registered as the ownership of the Railways. After this the Railways claimed these lands. After this, in March 2007, this building got locked. According to Dr. Anand Kishore, this dispute went to the court of District Court (ADJ 10). On May 28, 2007, the court formed a governing body under the chairmanship of the commissioner of Varanasi. The court said that this Board of Directors will give a decision in this dispute. From the year 2007 till May 14, 2023, the district administration’s lock remained closed on the institute, it was not operated. After this, a written request was made on behalf of Sarva Seva Sangh that the library of the institute is priceless, books are being destroyed. Its responsibility should be given to the Sarva Seva Sangh. The administration has pasted the notice for the demolition of this building, the action of which has been stopped by the court for the time being.

Kashi railway station was to be developed in the year 2020. This land is situated near the station. That’s why the dispute of this land once again came up for discussion. According to the lawsuit, all the land documents purchased by the Sarva Seva Sangh from the Railways in 1960, 1961 and 1970 have been prepared in a forged manner. He said that calling these documents forged is like questioning personalities like Acharya Vinoba Bhave, Radhakrishna Bajaj, Jayaprakash Narayan, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Jagjivan Ram and Dr. Rajendra Prasad.
