Ranchi: Sixth grader attacks classmate with scissors during lunchtime quarrel | Ranchi News – Times of India

RANCHI: A Class 6 student of Kairali School in the city had a close shave on Friday after his classmate attacked him with scissors. Although the school maintained that the victim escaped with minor injuries, the incident has put a question mark on the safety of students and what they are not allowed to bring to school.
The injured student, Shubham Singh, was rushed to a nearby hospital after the incident.Since the injury wasn’t severe, the family opted to get him discharged after administering initial first aid and chose not to report to the police station.
According to the parents, the altercation began during lunchtime over an undisclosed issue. It was during this heated exchange that the other student took out a pair of scissors from his belongings and attacked his classmate. The family chose not to file a police complaint.
Babita Kumari, mother of Shubham, said, “My son is fine, and we will let him stay at home for a couple of days. The school administration has been supportive, advising us to ensure he gets the rest he needs.”
Principal Rajesh Pillai of Kairali School acknowledged the incident. “The conflict between students are unfortunate in school. Since both the students are only sixth graders, the school has asked both the victim and the other student who attacked him, to stay at home for a few days. We will take a call on the one who attacked after a few days,” he said.
“We do not permit such substances in our school. The child may have brought the scissors for art and craft purposes. However, the class teachers will now conduct regular checks to ensure unwanted items are prohibited inside the class or campus,” he said. President of Jharkhand Parents’ Association, Ajay Roy, said, “Such incidents are stark reminder of the importance of fostering a safe and inclusive environment for all students within the school campuses.”
