Randeep Hooda, who played the lead role of Sarabjit Singh in the 2016 biopic Sarabjit, lived up to his role in real life as well. He recently performed the last rites of Sarabjit Singh’s sister Dalbir Kaur, as a promise he made during the shooting of the biopic. For the oblivious, Dalbir Kaur suffered a heart attack in her native village Bhikhiwind near Amritsar in Punjab. The actors left for Mumbai for the last rites. Dalbir had reportedly requested Randeep Hooda to give him a ‘kandha’ during his last rites and the actor stuck to his promise.

Randeep later took to his Instagram and wrote a long emotional note for the departed soul along with an old picture of himself with Dalbir. He wrote, “‘(Please come home) the last thing she said. I went, only she was gone. Even in the wildest dreams, no one could have imagined that Dalbir Kaur ji would leave us so soon. A fighter, a kid. Kind, sharp and devoted to all that he touched (sic).

He further wrote, “He fought for one system, one nation, this people and himself to try to save his beloved brother Sarabjit. I was so lucky to have his love and blessings and remember Rakhi sometime in this lifetime.” Didn’t. Ironically, the last time we met was when I was shooting in the fields of Punjab where we formed the Indo-Pak border (sic).”

Recalling the night, she shared in her note, “It was a chilly and foggy late November night but she didn’t care at all. She was glad we were on the same side of the border.” , I feel really blessed. Dalbir ji did not have that much time. I love you, I miss you and I will always cherish your love and blessings. peace.”
