Rdpr Min Taken By Surprise Over Contradictory Figures | Mysuru News – Times of India

Mysuru: Rural development and panchayat raj (RDPR) minister Priyank Kharge on Friday sought information from forest department officials to explore works that can be taken up under the the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme.
At a review meeting on the performance of the RDPR department, the minister was baffled by the progress report provided by the authorities. The information provided to the minister and the presentation made during the meeting had different figures. The minister asked the officials what magic they had done overnight as the figures were revised and took them to task saying all efforts by his team are wasted. Later, a senior official apologised to him.
Priyank said that the projected target with regard to the MGNREGA scheme appears to be unscientific and even then they have failed to achieve progress. The target of number of person-days appears to be less, the minister pointed out and the target achieved is lesser than the state average, he said.
He directed officials and MLAs to utilize the funds to rejuvenate kalyanis or temple tanks in the respective constituencies, especially in the panchayat limits.
The minister also sought information of those contractors having failed to complete the work assigned to them. He directed the officials to blacklist them and to send names of those contractors through proper channels to initiate action. He said he would straightaway immediately approve to blacklist the recommended contractors.
When a few officials said they were new to the posts and hence were lagging behind in achieving the target in different works, Priyank got annoyed and said officials couldn’t take such a defence. The government work is a continuous process and officers must come prepared. They can’t shirk their responsibility and say the previous officer was responsible for it, he said.
