AAsked whether he would rebel if the high command did not make him the chief minister of Karnataka, Congress leader DK Shivakumar on his way to Delhi on May 16 said his primary concern was to win at least 20 of the 28 Lok Sabha seats. The response from the state next year could have been an attempt to avoid a direct answer on the chief ministerial contest, but he raised the next big challenge not only for leaders from his own party but also for the rival BJP. The Grand Old Party hopes to carry this momentum till 2024 when the Lok Sabha elections are held, while the saffron party will hope to turn it in its favor again.
