Thane: Thane Sessions Court convicted one Diva Resident, Atul Singh (28) For brutal murder of a married woman Mrunal Ghadigaonkar, 32, who was his neighbor. It was a case of one sided love. In a recent order, Principal District Judge Abhay Mantri sentenced them life Imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 to be paid to the husband of the deceased.
The woman’s family had shifted residence due to constant harassment. On April 24, 2017, the accused went to the woman’s house when her husband was not around and quarreled with her. Enraged, he slit her throat with a blade and attacked her with a knife he had brought with him.
When the neighbors heard the screams of the woman, they rushed to help her, but the door was locked from inside. Her husband was alerted, but he was dead by the time he reached home, police inspector Sadashiv Nikam said, adding that the woman was found lying in a pool of blood at home.
After hearing both sides, the judge held that the prosecution had successfully proved all charges, and sentenced him to life imprisonment. -Nishikant Karlikar
