LUCKNOW: The remnants of Cyclone Biparjoy on Monday evening brought respite from the scorching heat prevailing in the state for almost a month and made weather conditions favorable for further advance of southwest monsoon into eastern parts in next 2-3 days.
The normal date of arrival of monsoon in Uttar Pradesh is June 18, while for Lucknow it is June 21.
“After traveling through Gujarat and Rajasthan, Biparjoy, though weakened, entered south UP districts bordering Rajasthan and brought thundershowers over the region. This cooled the atmosphere, resulting in cloudy skies and cold winds followed, bringing down the temperature in most parts of the state,” said Mohd DanishSenior Scientist, State Meteorological Department.
The low pressure area surrounding the cyclone also changed the wind pattern from west to east, which activated the flow of monsoon currents towards Uttar Pradesh. It has also formed a cyclonic circulation over Bihar and adjoining East UP. Together, the two factors will further advance Monsoon towards the state in the next 2-3 days.”

He said that the rain activity would intensify in the next 48-72 hours, resulting in rain and thundershowers over most parts of the state, including Lucknow, between Wednesday and Thursday.
According to the bulletin of the Indian Meteorological Department, on Monday, the monsoon advanced into some more parts of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar. The Northern Limit of Monsoon was passing through Ratnagiri (Maharashtra). Raichur (Karnataka), Kavali (Andhra Pradesh), Sriniketan (West Bengal) and Dumka (Jharkhand).
It said that conditions are favorable for further advance of monsoon.
