On 13 April 2023, Mafia Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf were brought to the CJM Court of Prayagraj. There was so much crowd inside the court. Twice as many people had gathered outside the court. Ateeq got 2 bad news that afternoon. First: In Jhansi, STF did an encounter of his son Asad. Second: He and Ashraf were sent on 4 days police remand. The matter was clear… Now, from 5 pm on 13th April till 5 pm on 17th April, Atiq had to remain in Prayagraj only.
After the decision of the court, the prison van did not go to Naini jail and directly reached Dhoomanganj police station. After coming to the police station where even Atiq himself did not know that only 2 days were left for his life. We reached Dhoomanganj police station. Day 1: An attempt to get Atiq to reveal his secret
Atiq and Ashraf were brought to Dhumanganj police station at 5 pm under heavy security cover. Even before the mafia reached the police station, the ATS and police team was present there. Earlier it was decided that the interrogation would take place in the investigation room of the police station, but due to paucity of space, the office of Police Station President Rajesh Kumar Maurya was made the interrogation area. Meanwhile, more than 100 police and paramilitary force personnel were deployed outside the police station. No one was allowed to enter. The strictness was so much that even the complainants were not given entry in the police station.
Atiq and Ashraf were asked more than 50 questions here one after the other. During this, Atiq confessed that he had been taking arms supplies from Pakistan. He called the ISI agent from Ahmedabad jail. Not only this, Atiq also confessed to the crime of conspiracy in the Umesh Pal murder case. Atiq-Ashraf were continuously interrogated. ATS separately interrogated for 4 hours regarding weapons and Pakistan connection. During this, both of them answered yes to many questions. He remained silent on most of the questions. Secrets were spilled till late night. Meanwhile both were allowed to sleep only for 3 hours. In the lockup of the police station where both of them spent the night, they were neither given a fan nor a sheet to sleep on. That’s why both of them spent the night lying on the sack. In terms of security, we cannot show the photos inside the lockup and police station.
Day 2: Ateeq’s confession
21 hours had passed since Atiq and his brother Ashraf were interrogated. Meanwhile, the mafia revealed many big secrets of its crime files. Atiq has said in his statement to the police that he never lacked weapons. ISI agents used to drop their weapons from Pakistan to India border through drones. Ashraf used to get those weapons delivered and gave money in return.
Atiq told that he can show the place in Punjab from where he used to store weapons. The weapons found with Atiq’s son Asad and his shooter Ghulam are rare. They are also feared to be imported from Pakistan.
9 pm: Dhumanganj police took Atiq-Ashraf to Kaushambi at 9 pm
On reaching Colvin Hospital, his brother Ashraf took Atiq out of the police van by supporting him.
During the afternoon-long interrogation, Ateeq kept asking repeatedly to show the photograph of his dead son. But the police did not agree even once. During interrogation, Atiq revealed many secrets. On the basis of enquiry, the police left for Kaushambi at 9 pm with Atiq-Ashraf. The police convoy reached Mahagaon near Puramufti police station. Nothing was found after running a search operation here. Officers were interrogating Atiq and Ashraf that Atiq told about chest pain and nervousness.
After this, the police reached Colvin Hospital with Atiq and Ashraf in the same handcuffs. Where the doctors checked-up him for 15 minutes. Both came out of the hospital. During this, Atiq remained silent on the questions of the media, but Ashraf gave the first statement on the encounter of nephew Asad. On the death of Asad, Ashraf said- ‘It was Allah’s thing, Allah took it.’

This was the third day of questioning of Atiq and Ashraf. On the one hand, the round of questioning was going on at Dhumanganj police station. On the other hand, the funeral of Atiq’s son Asad was taken up. Atiq was not far from the cemetery where Assad was buried. Police was interrogating him at Dhumanganj police station just 4 km away. To see the son for the last time, he kept begging in front of the police, pleaded many times, but his every attempt failed.
At 12 noon when a break was taken in the interrogation of Atiq-Ashraf. Atiq was then told that his son had been delivered. The immense sorrow of not being able to see the son for the last time broke him from inside. He cried a lot and lay down on the sack lying on the ground in the police station.
Atiq ate dal-roti, Ashraf broke the fast after drinking tea.
Along with the police, the ATS was questioning both regarding arms smuggling. Questions and answers continued till 6 pm. After this, Mafia Atiq Ahmed broke his fast by eating dal roti of the mess of Dhumanganj police station. There Ashraf broke his fast after drinking tea. Saddened by the death of his son, Atiq Ahmed had refused to eat food. Brother Ashraf cited Atiq’s poor health and taking medicines. After this, Atiq ate medicines after eating dal roti.
9 pm: The police had taken Atiq and Ashraf to the forest of Kasari Masari area. Here at the instance of Atiq, 2 foreign pistols and about 58 cartridges were recovered from a ruin. Some of these cartridges were said to be from Pakistan.

10 pm: 30 minutes before the murder
Both were taken to Colvin Hospital for routine medical checkup. The Mafia Brothers were once again out of lockup. Seeing this opportunity, the media surrounded Atiq. Questions were being asked about Asad’s funeral. Atik was asked – why didn’t you go to the son’s funeral? Mafia replied- If not taken, then did not go.
Meanwhile, 3 boys came posing as media persons breaking the security cordon of the police and shot 2 bullets one after the other in Atiq’s head. Ateeq fell on the ground. After this firing was done on Ashraf. Both piled up there. It was 10:30 in the night when this incident happened.
When Ateeq-Ashraf was killed, he had 42 hours left on his police remand. The next day of death i.e. on 16 April 2023, Atiq and Ashraf were buried in the cemetery of Kasari-Masari. This place is just 4 KM away from Dhumanganj Police Station.
Ateeq was shot in the head and killed after Colvin Hospital.
After Atiq’s death, the three attackers surrendered. The attackers were identified as Lavlesh, Sunny and Arun Maurya. Media card, camera and mic were also recovered from them. At present, the police is questioning all three.
