Reporting missing documents important: Karnataka DGP Praveen Sood | Mangaluru News – Times of India

MANGALURU: Police are underlining the importance of reporting missing documents such as Aadhar card in light of mangaluru blast case Where the accused Shariq (24) allegedly used stolen identity cards to hide his real identity.
Director General of Police and Inspector General of Police, Karnataka Praveen Sood During his visit to Mangaluru on Wednesday to review the progress of the case, appealed to the landlords to check the antecedents of the tenants, as well as report any missing documents to the police.
He said, ‘More than police checking, we appeal to all the landlords to be very careful while renting the property. It’s not just for the police to do background checks. Lakhs of houses are given on rent. In the interest of the owners, they should check the antecedents. Now to give credit to the Mysuru owner, he had checked the Aadhaar card of the accused Shariq. But unfortunately the Aadhaar card turned out to be fake. About 90% of people do not do this”.
Urging the public to report lost ID cards like Aadhaar card or passport, he said, “We can proudly say that one does not need to go to the police station to report it. There is an app called e-Lost where all the information can be uploaded and it becomes a police report. This is for your own safety, because if a person’s identity or vehicle is used for criminal activity or terrorist activity, that person is protected.
Similarly, though not connected with the case, he appealed to people selling their vehicles to ensure that the owner’s names are also transferred.
“Normally, when someone sells a vehicle, they only give a delivery note and the buyer will never transfer it in his name. I have been saying this for at least the last 12 years. The old owner will be fined for not changing the name. But this is a minor issue. The fact that the vehicle could be used in terroristic activity and the police could come towards you could be disastrous. So, whenever a vehicle is sold, please get it transferred in the name of the buyer,” said the DGP.
