RTE provision of free education to poor children implemented in a transparent manner: Official

The School Education Department has completed the admission process for free education of children from marginalized communities under Section 12(1)(c) of the Right to Education Act, which allows private unaided schools to charge 25% for them on admission. School Education Commissioner S. A statement issued by Suresh Kumar said that following the rules, the admissions were done in two phases on the basis of online lottery system.

A notification was released for admission through Geo no. 24 to 26 February, 2023. He said that 45,372 applications were received, out of which 27,648 applicants exercised their web options. The commissioner said that 25,438 applicants were found eligible under the six-stage verification process, adding that 26,279 applicants were allotted schools, but only 18,749 of them admitted their children to the allotted schools.

He said that the District Education Officers and Additional Project Coordinators of Samagra Shiksha in the State had been tasked with the proper implementation of the clause. The department also coordinated with the Director of Village and Ward Sachivalayams to provide online services to the children for submission of application free of cost in every village/ward secretariat and to assist the parents to pay a toll during the process of admission -Free number (14417) can be provided. He said that the doubts of the children are resolved.

He said that the RTE clause was successfully implemented by the department in a transparent manner for the academic year 2023-2024, duly following the interim orders of the Andhra Pradesh High Court from time to time.
