A Russian court on Tuesday denied bail to US reporter Ivan Gershkovich, who has been arrested on espionage charges that could carry up to 20 years in prison.
A judge read the ruling saying that his custody “must remain in place”, after which Mr Gershkovich replied in Russian: “Understood. Thank you very much.”
