In a new interview with his son Arbaaz Khan, Salim talks about Bachchan’s reclusive nature and why they were never really close. The author recalled approaching Dharmendra, Dev Anand and Dilip Kumar with the script of Zanjeer. After all of them rejected, the script fell to Amitabh Bachchan. However, at that time none of the leading ladies were ready to act in the film, so she knocked Jaya BachchanThe Doors and asked her to act in it. Salim said that he had so much faith in Amitabh’s professionalism and his acting that he kept promoting his name at every turn. But after the separation, the two did not keep in touch with each other and Salim said that Amitabh’s nature was a bit reserved.

Salim feels that it was his responsibility to maintain the relationship. According to him, when you become a big star, it is up to you to maintain relationships, which for some reason he did not.

Amitabh and Salim reunited after the Salim-Javed split in the 1989 film Toofan, and Salim said they were equally professional, but mentioned they were never friends.
