Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 ‘entry-level’ variant
According to a report by South Korean publication The Elec (spotted by 9to5Google), Samsung is working on an “entry-level” variant of its upcoming foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The report claims that the cheaper foldable smartphone from Samsung is expected to launch in the second half of 2024.
As per the report, an “entry-level” Galaxy Z Fold 6 will help Samsung to “increase the penetration rate of the foldable phone market,” especially as more foldables come out of China.
Samsung’s presence in the foldable market
The report also notes that despite being a pioneer in foldables, Samsung is in third place in the foldable smartphone market in China. Other rivals like Xiaomi, Honor, and Huawei have offered their own foldables options in the region at more affordable price points compared to ones offered by Samsung. These brands also managed to get a lot of traction and outsell Samsung in China.
Earlier, in November 2023, another report predicted that Samsung may launch a “mid-range” foldable. Later, the company confirmed that it has no plans to launch a “mid-range” foldable smartphone. A Samsung spokesperson said that the “rumors are groundless.”
Apart from this, the report shares any other details about the upcoming standard variant of the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Rumours suggest that in 2024, Samsung may offer a different aspect ratio for the foldable smartphone which may also have a sleeker design than its predecessor.
