Sanjay Leela Bhansali to interact with OTT chief Ted Sarandos – Times of India

Sanjay Leela Bhansali Will be in conversation with Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos tomorrow at 12 noon at The St. Regis Hotel in Mumbai. Ted Sarandos has come to India and has also met Union Minister of India Anurag Thakur in Delhi.
The two will discuss the present and future of Bhansali’s Heeramandi along with the OTT platform and how this web series is likely to prove to be a game changer for the OTT platform. The first poster of Heeramandi will also be unveiled.

Sanjay Bhansali says, “It is a very exciting time for Indian cinema and its division into theaters and OTT platforms. I look forward to speaking with Ted Sarandos.”
Heeramandi started shooting last year without much fanfare at Film City in Mumbai. No official announcement was made about the commencement of shooting. But let us tell you that each episode is being shot like an independent full feature film by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Currently, Bhansali himself is shooting for the first episode. All the other six episodes of this limited series since Episode 2 are directed by Mitakshara Kumar, who worked as Bhansali’s associate director on Bajirao Mastani and Padmavat.

It is a very complex web series with multiple characters and elaborate songs and dances. Of course there won’t be much dancing. But singing and dancing would be the core of the Kotha culture. The costumes and other details of the set are in high demand.

Bhansali thought that he would oversee Heeramandi while preparing for his next, Baiju Bawra. But now, considering the amount of time and labor Hiramandi requires, he has put Baiju Bawra on the backburner. After Hiramandi he may not do Baiju Bawra immediately, and may be somewhat less elaborate and tedious.
