Sarfaraz Khan’s Impressive Debut and Hard Work Praised by TA Sekar | Nagpur News – Times of India

Nagpur: Though two brilliant centuries in Rajkot — one each by Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja — got India out of the woods, it was a debutant who almost stole the limelight on Thursday.
Sarfaraz Khan basked in the sunshine and scored a sparkling 66-ball 62 after receiving the India cap. “Coming from a humble background, it is a huge achievement for Sarfaraz to score a half century on his debut,” said TA Sekar, a former India player and scout for Mumbai Indians franchisee.
Sekar, who was in the city for MI Junior Season 4’s concluding event, said, “Sarfaraz has put in hard yards. His family too has worked hard and sacrificed a lot. I am sure he will do well in future too,” he added.
Though T20 has proved that the shortest format sells the most, Sekar feels it’s the red ball cricket that is instrumental in making a player. “If you don’t play the longer format, you won’t succeed in T20s. This is why even the BCCI is not holding many T20s for U-14 and U-16 age groups. When you are learning the tricks of the game, playing the longer format will always be more useful,” said Sekar.
Sekar, who himself was a fast bowler, said he is happy with India’s pace battery doing well in the recent past. “India was always the land of spinners. Seeing fast bowlers doing well is satisfying,” he said.
