The Supreme Court will hear the petition seeking a stay on the release of the film ‘The Kerala Story’ today. The hearing of the case was postponed in the court on Monday. Journalist Kurban Ali and Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind have filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking to stop the release of the film.

Let us tell you that on May 5, the Kerala High Court refused to stay the release of the film. Thereafter, the petitioners challenged this decision of the High Court in the Supreme Court.

Audience’s dreams were always big for me: Adah
On the other hand, actress Adah Sharma, who appeared in the lead role in the film, thanked the audience for the good response the film was getting. Talking to news agency ANI, the actress said- Whatever film I used to do, I used to think that it would be my last film. Now I feel that the audience’s dreams for me were always bigger.

I did not expect that the film would get such a response. I always wanted to do good films, but didn’t know if I would ever get a chance or not. Sometimes I used to feel that I would have to be reborn like Shah Rukh Khan in Om Shanti Om to do good films.

What did the Kerala High Court say?
The Kerala High Court refused to stay the release of the film, saying the movie is inspired by true events. Justice N Nagresh and Justice Sophie Thomas said that the Board of Film Certification has given permission to release it only after watching it. There is nothing objectionable for any community in this.

The court asked- any of the petitioners saw the film? The producers are saying that the film is a fictionalized version of certain incidents. They are also ready to remove that teaser from social media, in which there is talk of 32 thousand women joining ISIS.

This picture is taken from the trailer of the film. It shows how 3 college going girls join a terrorist organization.

What did the Supreme Court say earlier?
After getting a blow from the Kerala High Court, the decision was challenged in the Supreme Court. Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal appeared in the court on behalf of the petitioners. He appealed to the bench of CJI DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha to hear the matter urgently.

The bench asked whether the High Court has passed any order in this matter. In response, Advocate Kapil Sibal said that he has refused to stay the release of the film. SC said that the actors and producers have worked hard to make the film, you must think about it. You should be very careful in banning the film. If this film is not good then it will be decided by the market.

Tax free film in these states
‘The Kerala Story’ was made tax free in Madhya Pradesh. After this the film was made tax free in Uttar Pradesh as well. At the same time, Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee banned the film. On the other hand, the owners of theaters in Tamil Nadu themselves had announced not to show the film.

The director of the film Sudipto Sen said – Mamta should see the film first. Then take a decision.

Director said – Ban on film inspired by politics
The film’s director Sudipto Sen said that it is very unfortunate that Mamata Banerjee has banned the film without seeing it. No untoward incident has happened in the state due to this film. This ban is completely politically motivated. I appeal to them to watch the film, then take a decision. Film maker Ashok Pandit said that this ban is an attack on freedom of expression.
