SCO meeting: Vladimir Putin says Russia will oppose ‘sanctions and provocations’ – Times of India

The United States and the European Union have imposed an unprecedented embargo against Moscow over military intervention, forcing Russia to lean economically on Asian markets, particularly for its energy exports.
The Russian leader also thanked SCO members for their support during the short-lived insurgency led by the Wagner mercenary group aimed at Russia’s military leadership.
“I would like to thank our partners from the SCO countries who expressed their support for the constitutional order and the actions of the Russian leadership to protect the lives and safety of citizens,” Putin said.
The head of the Wagner mercenary group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, led his forces in late June in a brief mutiny against Moscow’s top military officials, which Putin described as a threat to the country’s existence.
