Senthil Balaji sacking: What did Amit Shah say to Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi?

Hours after Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi withdrew his unprecedented decision to sack jailed minister Senthil Balaji from the state cabinet for his alleged role in corruption cases. The bold and rare move was rolled back following the intervention of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. In a letter to Chief Minister MK Stalin, Governor RN Ravi said the order of sacking of minister Senthil Balaji “may be kept in abeyance”.

Earlier RN Ravi had ordered Senthil Balaji out And argued in the five-page letter how there are apprehensions that he may prejudice the due process of law in the investigation against him.

In an official release, the Raj Bhavan in Chennai said that “there were reasonable apprehensions that the continuance of V Senthil Balaji in the Council of Ministers would adversely affect the due process of law including fair investigation which may ultimately lead to breakdown of the constitutional machinery.” In the state, “there was an uproar in the political circles of Tamil Nadu as Chief Minister MK Stalin plans to take legal action against the decision of the Governor.

Governor RN Ravi after just five hours withdrew its unilateral decision Senthil Balaji will be sacked after Amit Shah’s intervention. In another one-page letter to MK Stalin, RN Ravi told that Amit Shah has advised him to take the opinion of the Attorney General in this matter.

RN Ravi said, “Honourable Union Home Minister has advised me that it would be prudent to take the opinion of the Attorney General as well. Accordingly, I am approaching the Attorney-General for his opinion.” In the meantime, the order of dismissal of Minister Thiru V. Senthil Balaji may be kept in abeyance till further communication from my end,” he added.

Senthil Balaji was arrested From Enforcement Directorate On June 14, in a cash-for-job scam. He was later admitted to a government hospital in Chennai after he complained of chest pain. He was allowed to be shifted to a private hospital of his choice by the Madras High Court on 15 June.
