Services doctors’ body calls report on forced virginity tests an act of intimidation against government doctors

The Service Doctors and Post Graduates Association (SDPGA) said the banned two-finger test was not conducted on minor girls and called such reports an act of intimidation against government doctors, who are witnesses in the matter.

In a statement issued on Saturday, SDPGA President P. Saminathan said that the police brought two minor girls, who were married in September 2022, to government hospitals in Chidambaram and Cuddalore for medical examination. They were examined as per the existing protocol and certificates were issued on 26 September.

Referring to some media reports about two-finger test being conducted during the examinations, he said it was objectionable as no such test was conducted. Everything was done as per the directions given earlier by the Supreme Court, which had banned the two-finger test, Mr. Saminathan said.

Government doctors of the state, especially obstetricians-gynaecologists, were repeatedly given online training to examine children under the Child Sexual Offenses Protection Act. Such reports were a misrepresentation of facts as the test was not conducted.

“SDPGA sees this as an act of intimidation against government doctors who are witnesses in this case. SDPGA has requested the authorities to verify such sensitive news before putting it in the public domain.
