Share Market Update: Sensex down 200 points, Nifty below 19,500; Titan up 3% – News18

Sensex today: Equity benchmark indices opened with losses on Friday tracking losses in global markets following rates hike fears following strong private jobs data in the US. The BSE Sensex fell 155 points to 65,628 and the NSE Nifty 50 slipped 46 points to 19,450.

Tech M, Power Grid, HCL Tech, Bharti Airtel, ICICI Bank, Divis Lab, Cipla and Hindalco were among the losers on the Sensex and Nifty.

On the other hand, Titan, Reliance, Nestle, M&M, HUL, SBI Life and Tata Consumer were some of the major gainers.

Broader markets were mixed. The BSE Midcap index fell 0.13 per cent while the Smallcap index rose 0.22 per cent.

US stocks sold off on Thursday after private sector jobs jumped 497,000 for June, more than double the Dow Jones consensus estimate of 220,000, raising bets for tighter monetary policy by the Fed. The S&P 500 declined 0.79 percent, with the Dow and Nasdaq down 1.07 percent and 0.82 percent, respectively.

The decline in Asian shares also continued for the second day in a row. Nikkei, Hang Seng, Strait Times, Kospi and S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.5-1.6 per cent.
