Shinde Sena ups its demand | Mumbai News – Times of India

Mumbai: Though the seat-sharing formula between the Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde, the BJP and NCP (Ajit Pawar) has not been finalised, the Shinde-led Sena has upped its demand and asked for 22 of the 48 constituencies in the state.
Sena minister Shambhuraj Desai said his party has insisted it should get the same number of seats in this election as in 2019.Desai said his party has also reviewed the 22 constituencies and provided updates to Shinde. Just last week, Shinde had held a meeting of his MPs and the Sena had staked claim to 18 LS seats. Shinde had also asked the party’s 13 sitting MPs to begin preparing for the polls.
Raising the demand is seen to be a pressure tactic aimed at securing at least the minimum number of seats needed to safeguard its interests. Given that it has 13 sitting MPs and has a claim to a fair share of the working class Sena vote, its leaders are hoping to drive a hard bargain with BJP and NCP.
“It is certain that in the upcoming Lok Sabha election, the grand alliance i.e. Shiv Sena, BJP and NCP will contest the elections together. Which party will contest how many seats and which seats will be finalized soon, coordination committee meetings have been held (to discuss this) and they have submitted the report but the final decision will be taken by CM Shinde and DCMs Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar. We insist that Shiv Sena should get the same number of seats in this election that we contested on our bow and arrow symbol in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections,” Desai said.
“In 2019, Sena contested 22 and won 18, so this time also we are insisting on 22 seats…there is good rapport within our alliance and no one is upset. Insisting for a seat does not generate resentment,” Desai said. The BJP-Sena combine had in 2019 won 41 of the 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra While the Sena won 18, the BJP won 23 seats. The BJP and Shiv Sena contested 25 and 23 seats respectively.
