THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kollam rural police have registered a case against six unknown persons for allegedly beating up a soldier and forcibly painting ‘PFI‘ on his back.
The Kadakkal police have registered a case under the sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 153 (provocation for rioting) and 149 of the IPC on the complaint by Shinekumar, a native of Chanappara in Kollam.
The alleged incident took place around 11pm on Sunday, when two persons who were standing on the roadside told the complainant, who was coming on a bike, to stop as one person who would be probably known to the complainant was found drunk inside a rubber plantation about 200 metres inside the main road. He accompanied them to the rubber plantation where some more persons joined them to beat him up, forcibly tore his shirt and wrote the word ‘PFI’ on his back with green paint.
PFI generally refers to the Popular Front of India, an organisation banned by the Centre last year.
However, police sources also said that there are contradictions in the statements of the soldier and no injuries were found on him. The police are in the process of undertaking a detailed probe in the matter. The soldier was set to return to his unit in Jaisalmer in Rajasthan on Tuesday.
