Nagpur: The Sontu Jain fraud case has brought fugitive international online gaming app guru Rakesh Rajkot on the police radar.
Multimillionaire Rakesh, known to be politically connected, is now holed up in Dubai or London, with Delhi special cell, Rajasthan police, and now Nagpur cops, searching for him in different matters. Starting from matka, satta or gambling, Rakesh soon amassed a fortune before fleeing to Dubai and London to evade Indian enforcement agencies.

Sontu had taken the franchise of manipulated gaming app ‘diamondexch999.com’ from Rakesh Rajkot alias RR bhai. Sontu was booked following a complaint from friend-turned-foe Vikrant Agrawal, who has also registered two complaints against Sontu’s sister Astha, her brother-in-law Vinay and their friend Ruby Jain, who had flown down from Kolkata to pressurize Agrawal to withdraw the case on September 2.
A senior police official said Sontu, during the ongoing interrogation, named his mentor Rakesh, who shuttles between Dubai and London with substantial properties in both countries. Rakesh, also kingpin of hawala channels, has also been booked for coordinating transactions of over Rs1,400 crore. Apart from 10 offences in Ahmedabad city, Rakesh has offences in Delhi, Rajasthan and now Nagpur too.
Being part of a syndicate, Sontu and Rakesh may also be booked under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act, said an official privy to the probe. City’s top hawala operators like Anwesh Jain and others too are under scanner.
City police chief Amitesh Kumar said the investigation team is taking all efforts to unravel the crime. “Many options and strategies are being worked out,” he said.
Police said Rakesh is also connected to T20 tournaments in India and owns several websites and apps like www.world777.com, through which he invites gamers to place bets on different sports. He then gradually takes them to cricket betting, and later makes them lose through his especially coded software, which does not allow any person to win large amounts.

His lawyers requested more time to review the police’s reply. The police had seized large amounts of cash, gold, and silver from Jain’s residence.
Sontu naming few, shielding many during investigation
An international bookie and gaming app operator, Ananth Jain, also known as Sontu Gondia, is evading questions from the police during interrogation. He has only provided selected information about his assets and wealth worth over 70-80 crore. Sontu has admitted the names of top bookies and gaming app operators after the police showed evidence of his links with them. Sontu’s bail application hearing is scheduled for Monday. He is accused of cheating and duping a businessman of Rs 58 crore through his gaming app Diamondexchange@com. The investigation aims to uncover a multi-crore gaming app scam involving international rackets.
