South Korea summons China’s envoy over ‘redundant’ comments – Times of India

Seoul: South Korea Beijing’s ambassador was summoned on Friday over his remarks soul “It was wrong to bet against China”.
Ambassador of China to South Korea, Xing Haimingon Thursday criticized Seoul’s recent diplomatic efforts to court long-time ally Washington.
“With the United States putting full pressure on China, some are betting that the US will prevail and China will lose. But this is clearly the wrong bet.” Xing told the media at a meeting with South Korean opposition leader Lee Jae-myung.
“I can say with certainty that those who bet against China will regret it in the future,” he said, adding Beijing skeptics were “not understanding the flow of history”.
In response, South Korea’s First Vice Foreign Minister Chang Ho-jin warned Chinese diplomats criticizing their host country’s policy with “false facts … intolerable”.
The ministry said in a statement that he said the comments were “an act of internal interference”.
The statement said Beijing’s envoy was summoned for a meeting during which the deputy minister “expressed strong regret over the diplomatic protocol, redundant and provocative behaviour”.
In April, South Korean Pres. eun suk yeol said that tensions over Taiwan were due to “attempts to change the status quo by force”.
The remarks resulted in a diplomatic tit-for-tat, with Beijing lodging a protest, which Seoul condemned as a “serious diplomatic blunder”.
