South producers refused to back Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s films, told him to try Bollywood as Tollywood could not handle his bold content, reveals brother Pranay Reddy Vanga | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

Sandeep Reddy Vanga faced a lot of criticism for violent and toxic content in his movies like ‘Kabir Singh’ and ‘Animal’. The Ranbir Kapoor starrer has crossed almost Rs 800 crore at the box office, but the criticism is also growing parallelly.
In a recent revelation, Sandeep’s brother Pranay Reddy Vanga, who is the co-producer of ‘Animal,’ said that Sandeep Reddy was told to approach Bollywood as his idea was too bold for Tollywood. While talking to Pinkvilla, Pranay said that Sandeep Reddy could not get approval for his first Telugu film because they found it too bold to handle and the filmmaker was then asked to approach Bollywood for this.

‘Animal’ director Sandeep Reddy Vanga says ‘only 15-20 jokers’ think that the film is ‘misogynistic’: ‘It’s a wrong word to use…’

On a serious note, Pranay said that after finishing his studies in film school in Australia, Sandeep returned to Hyderabad and thought he would crack it easily and make movies soon. But it did not happen that way. Producers found it beyond their belief system whenever Sandeep narrated a story. Additionally, Pranay recollected producers telling Sandeep that this content is too risky for Tollywood and it would be better if he approaches Bollywood for the same.

Pranay revealed that they collected some money of their own and from the family to make ‘Arjun Reddy,’ and the movie’s success led to the Hindi remake ‘Kabir Singh,’ but no filmmakers were ready to back it. After facing rejections, Shahid Kapoor, who played the lead role in ‘Kabir Singh,’ asked producers to bring Sandeep to Bollywood. That’s how ‘Arjun Reddy’s’ remake happened. Sandeep did not expect a career in Bollywood and had gone back to Hyderabad. But Bhushan Kumar, one of the producers of ‘Animal,’ made Sandeep work on a Hindi remake.
