Insomniac Games has released a new story-focused trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, offering a first look at new characters and some of the story. A new special edition PlayStation 5 console has also been revealed.

Sony’s Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is set to release for PlayStation 5 on October 20 this year. While a detailed gameplay-focused trailer was released during May’s PlayStation Showcase, Insomniac Games has now released a new story trailer and information about a special edition PS5 console during the ongoing Comic Con.

The trailer begins with Harry Osborn having a friendly conversation with Peter Parker. Harry says he “got a second chance” and wants to “fix the world”. The trailer then cuts to a shot of the main cast, including a new, updated character model for Mary Jane Watson (MJ) and a slightly more adult version of Miles Morales – the second Spider-Man, sporting a new hairstyle.

We also see the hunter Kraven and his men fighting Spider-Man. And, Peter Parker is telling Mary Jane about Kraven, who is looking for “somebody”. Miles Morales then recounts his struggles and is confronted by a returning Mister Negative – the man who killed his father.

Midway through the scene, a voice-over, presumably Miles’, says, “What’s up with Pete?” To which Mary Jane replies, “He is not himself,” possibly indicating that the Venom symbiote has taken control of him and is now controlling his body. As we’ve seen before, Peter Parker becomes violent when under the influence of the symbiote.

The trailer also shows Peter Parker looking out over New York City, with a disembodied voice in the background that sounds like Venom saying, “We’re going to heal the world.” If you notice, that’s exactly what Harry Osborn says at the beginning of the trailer. This could mean that Harry Osborn is Venom—but that’s just a theory. Another possibility is that someone else is Venom, and this is a ploy by Insomniac Games to try to intrigue gamers. The trailer ends with a full glimpse of Venom wreaking havoc on the city – destroying helicopters, jumping off buildings and growling.

In addition to the new trailer, a follow-up trailer was also released – revealing a special edition PS5 console. The special edition PS5 will feature unique side plates based on the game’s red and black theme, a digital code for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, as well as a special edition DualSense controller with a similar aesthetic.

However, Sony has made sure that existing PS5 owners will also be able to recreate the look – as both the special edition side plate and DualSense controller will be available as separate accessories. Pre-orders for the bundle, sideplate and controller are expected to go live in India by the end of this month. We will update this article once we get key details from Sony India.
