Sriram Raghavan on Vijay Sethupathi’s role in Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan and their friendship | – Times of India

Sriram Raghavan recently shared his experience of working with Vijay Sethupathi in Merry Christmas. The director not only labeled the Tamil actor as the most secure but also described him as rooted and how success has not corrupted him. He also opened up about the impact of Shah Rukh Khan starrer Jawan‘s success on Merry Christmas and Vijay’s less prominent role in the Atlee directorial.
Sriram revealed that even before filming began for Merry Christmas, he and Vijay engaged in deep conversations and developed a friendship. They discussed life and understood each other’s working styles.
Praising Vijay’s talent, Sriram told India Today, “Vijay always has so much to give to his directors. Even when you want a samosa, he will give you a buffet of options (laughs). He is such a secure actor. He did have his challenges with Hindi but because we were not making something very traditional, I just asked him to be himself. And that worked like magic.”

Regarding Jawan, Sriram acknowledged that the Hindi-speaking audience eagerly anticipated seeing the Tamil star. He noted that Vijay’s earlier release, Farzi, received love for his crazy character. Although Jawan exposed him to a broader audience, Sriram expressed a desire for Vijay to have a more memorable role in the film.

“As soon as it came, people really enjoyed him. Of course, with ‘Jawan’, more audiences got to see him because it had Shah Rukh Khan. But I wish he had a much more memorable role in Jawan. With this film, his first Hindi outing, I think he’s gotten what he deserves,” Sriram shared.

The Badlapur and Andhadhun director added that Vijay is quite rooted to have let success affect him in any way. “He has come up the hard way. So, he’s grateful and the best part is that he’s always in the quest to learn,” he concluded.
