Standing Committee Clears Budget After Minor Changes | Vadodara News – Times of India

Vadodara: The standing committee of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) cleared the budget proposed by the municipal commissioner with a minor increase in the allocation. Against a budget of Rs 5,523 crore proposed, the committee cleared a budget of Rs 5,558 crore.
The committee did not make any changes in the tax proposals. No hikes in taxes were suggested in the proposed budget even as a suggestion to reduce vehicle tax on electric vehicles (EV) was made. The committee cleared the proposal for the lowering of the tax on EVs too.
The standing committee made some changes in the expenses in the proposed budget to ensure that it could include some extra development works and also remove allocations that were no longer necessary.
The committee removed the expenses for the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) head of the Smart City that were included in the budget. VMC standing committee chairman Dr Sheetal Mistry said that these will now be borne by the Smart City.
The committee reduced the amount earmarked for medical reimbursements of VMC employees and that for pathological laboratory and hospital bills. The employees have instead been asked to procure medicines from VMC’s health centres and if not available there from the Jan Aushadhi stores. Only bills of Jan Aushadhi stores will be reimbursed.
Only in cases where medicines are not available in Jan Aushadhi stores, the VMC will reimburse bills of private medical shops. At the other end, the committee increased the allocation for procurement of medicines, consumables, rapid kits for diagnosis, sanitizers and other such material for its health centres. It also reduced the allocation for procurement of fogging machines and other material for mosquito control and a part of the procurement had already been done.
The committee also increased the allocation for procurement of new birds at the Kamatibaug aviary. Mistry said that this was done as there were complaints that it was difficult to see birds as their number was not sufficient.
