Stranger Things Last Season: The Stranger Things S4 was remarkable for more than one reason. Not only did it raise the level of sci-fi horror series, but it took the story forward by giving it many branches and characters. There’s still so much to look forward to. Will Eleven be able to save Hawkins? Will Vecna/Henry/Forest succeed in their devious plan to take over the world? Will the Upside Down gang reach their ultimate goal? In such a situation, many questions were raised regarding the new episode of the show. Apart from the story, the other thing which was much talked about was the length of the episodes. After all, the last episode of Stranger Things S4 was over two and a half hours long.

The Duffer brothers have explained why “Stranger Things” season four episodes lasted so long and revealed why they don’t expect season five to follow suit. According to The Hollywood Stories, during the latest “Happy Sad Confused” podcast episode hosted by Josh Horowitz, the creative mind of the hit Netflix hit opened up to a spoiler-y conversation about the second half of the show’s latest season. The things they talked about included the death of the character, an impromptu kiss between the show’s two main characters, and what’s on the table for season five. This includes what fans can expect from the episode lengths of the final season. Most of them ran for about 80 minutes, while the last three lasted no less than an hour and a half. Except for the last episode of season five and the finale of the streaming series, both say “we don’t expect” season five episodes to be long.

“We are more likely to do what we did here, which is just a two and a half hour episode,” Matt said. He then explained why the episodes of season four were finally so long. “The only reason we don’t expect to be around for that long is because generally – or in this season, if you look at it, it’s about a two-hour ramp up before our babies are really a supernatural mystery.” Come in. You get to know them, you get to see them in their lives, they’re struggling to adapt to high school etc. Steve is trying to find a date, all that,” Matt he said.

He continued, “None of that is obviously going to happen in the first two episodes. For the first time ever, we don’t wrap things up at the end of four.” Regarding the final season’s pacing and starting point, Matt said “it’s going to go fast” although he’s not sure if it’s “going to go 100 mph.”

Matt explained, “The characters are already going to be in action, they already have a goal and a drive, and I think it’s going to take at least a couple of hours and really make this season. Makes you feel different.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, “I’m sure the wrap-up will be too long,” laughs, saying Matt, “it’ll be a return of King-ish, like, eight endings.”
