‘Stray vacancy round’ to be held to fill more than 1,000 MBBS seats – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The Medical Counselling Committee has announced a special ‘stray vacancy round’ to fill MBBS/BDS seats that have not yet been taken.
Over 1,000 MBBS seats are lying vacant in medical colleges, even after four rounds of counselling. The deadline for admission set by the National Medical Commissionwas September 30. The schedule released by MCC on Tuesday said counselling for all-India quota seats in government colleges, central institutions and deemed universities would be held from October 31, with results to be announced November 7.State counselling sessions will be held from November 7-10. The last date of joining is November 15.
The schedule also directs state counselling authorities “to conduct seat processing for special stray vacancy round of states after weeding out candidates allotted in special stray vacancy round of the MCC”. tnn
Of 1k, only about 60 vacant seats are in govt colleges
According to the NMC, only about 60 of the total vacant seats are in government colleges. “The majority of seats that are still lying vacant are in private medical colleges. Some of them are management quota seats. Nonetheless, this is a serious issue and the NMC is constantly analysing the reasons behind this,” said an official on Tuesday, who did not want to be identified.
