Unions staged a sit-in around railway stations for the second day this week and warned of more industrial action unless an agreement could be reached to improve wages and avoid redundancies.

“But if we don’t get an agreement, it’s very likely that will happen.”
Though talks are on, a third day’s strike is planned on Saturday. Other industries are also moving towards industrial action, which unions say could lead to a “heat of discontent”.
The government has criticized the strikes, calling them counterproductive and most harmful to low-income people who depend on public transport and are unable to work from home.
Later on Thursday, ministers will make planned changes to a law that would make it easier for businesses to use temporary workers, in a move designed to lessen the impact of the strike action.
“Once again trade unions are holding the country to ransom by stopping vital public services and businesses. The situation we are in is not sustainable,” said the trade secretary quasi quartengo Told.
“Repealing these restrictions of the 1970s would give businesses the freedom to access fully skilled workforce at speed, while allowing all people to carry on with their lives uninterruptedly to help the economy sustain.”
