Cyclone Moka weakened after hitting the coast of Myanmar, but it also affected the eastern states of India. There was a strong thunderstorm in West Bengal and Mizoram on Monday night. Due to which 9 people have lost their lives in Kolkata and some districts of South Bengal. 236 houses were damaged in Mizoram. Simultaneously, eight Myanmar refugee camps were destroyed in the southern part of the state.

According to State Disaster Management officials, 5,789 people in 41 villages and towns have been affected by the strong wind and heavy rain. Officials said at least 708 Myanmar refugees were shifted to safer places such as schools and community halls. Siaha, bordering Myanmar, is the most affected district.

Around 25 trees fell due to the strong wind in Kolkata. Seven cars and one bike were damaged in this. A traffic signal post on the flyover was uprooted. Strong winds caused temporary power outages in some areas in the southwest.

Some localities of Behala such as Kailash Ghosh Road, Barisha and Matilal Gupta Road reported power cuts during the storm. In South Garia and Kalyani, electricity was switched off as a safety measure during the storm.

Five flights diverted, 12 flights delayed
At least five flights were diverted and 12 were delayed at the Kolkata airport between 5.30 p.m. and 6.20 p.m. due to wind speed reaching up to 84 kmph at the Kolkata airport. Among the five diverted planes was an international Bangla Star flight from Dhaka which went back to Dhaka.

Apart from this, four other domestic flights, two IndiGo flights (one from Chennai and the other from Delhi) were diverted to Ranchi and two others (Vistara flight from Delhi and another Air Asia India flight from Surat) were diverted to Bhubaneswar.
