Students of IIT-K and STEP HBTI organized health camp at Maqsoodabad village. Kanpur News – Times of India

Kanpur: Under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, students of IIT Kanpur are actively participating in social work in nearby villages by coming out of the academic campus. Over 100 students of IIT-Kanpur and MBA students of STEP HBTI came out of the campus on their bicycles to create health awareness in nearby Maqsoodabad village on Saturday.
The initiative was taken under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), a Government of India scheme in which IIT-Kanpur as a regional coordinator motivates students of higher educational institutions to work for the upliftment and development of villages. STEP HBTI, and Rama University were the partner institutions for this outreach initiative. The students took information about the health of the villagers and filled the health survey form. ASHA and ANM workers of CHC Kalyanpur along with IITians helped in making Ayushman cards while CSC team was present to help in registration of other cards. The health camp was inaugurated by ‘Sarpanch’ Narendra Kumar and Professor Sandeep Sangal and Sudhanshu Shekhar Singh along with Professor CK Tiwari and Yogesh Puri of STEP HBTI. Professor Sandeep Sangal, coordinator of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), IITK, encouraged the students and said that through them awareness about health and government schemes would increase among the villagers and health services would be made available to the needy and more people. turn, filling service delivery gaps. The villagers showed great enthusiasm as they gathered in large numbers to get Ayushman cards made and collect related information. Around 20 people registered for Ayushmann during the outreach. It was observed that most of the villagers were not using the government app which provides information about this.
A team of doctors from RK Devi Eye Hospital led by senior Ophthalmologist Dr. Avadh Dubey examined 75 patients, out of which 12 were prescribed for Cataract, 3 for Pterygium and 48 for spectacles. Rama University team was also there for health checkup, and they screened 80 people and found high sugar level in 4 people and high blood pressure in 24 people.
About 150 people participated in the camp which lasted till 4 pm, indicating the success of the initiative in creating health awareness among the villagers. The participation of students and various health professionals made this event a significant step towards the upliftment and development of the village.
