Gumla: Sukhdeo Bhagat, the Congress candidate from Lohardaga Lok Sabha seat, sought the blessings of tribal socio-political leader Kartik Oraon before starting his campaign in the three assembly segments of Gumla district Gumla, Sisai, and Bishunpur on Monday. He paid floral tributes at Oraon’s samadhi in Karaunda-Litatoli, around 9 km from Gumla town.
After paying homage, Bhagat said, “If elected, I will demand Bharat Ratna for Kartik Oraon and Jaipal Singh Munda in Parliament as both the charismatic leaders deserve the same.”
“Kartik Oraon ji is my ideal. So, I first chose to pay tribute to him and seek his blessing before launching my campaign,” he told TOI. Afterwards, he held a meeting with villagers and sought their support in the election. He then attended a workers’ meet of the three assembly constituencies in Gumla town.
During the meet, Bhagat said, “This election is a fight to save not only our constitutional legacy but adivasiat (tribalism) also as the Modi government is bent on eliminating our identity.”
Without naming anyone, Bhagat said, “If anyone from INDIA bloc fight election from this seat (Lohardaga) it will be considered as disrespect of the seat sharing formula arrived at within the alliance.”
