James Gunn announced that at next year’s CinemaCon, they will launch the Summer of Superman.

The DC fans have been eagerly awaiting the updates of the upcoming Superman film, slated to release next year. Recently, James Gunn, the co-CEO of DC Studios and the director of the upcoming Superman film, gave something to the fans to look forward to. The filmmaker attended the CinemaCon in Las Vegas and launched the new logo for the Superman film. This new “bright red and yellow” emblem does not have a complete “S” of Superman but is still emblematic of the superhero. Additionally, Gunn announced that at next year’s CinemaCon they will kick off the “Summer of Superman”.

While making this announcement, Gunn said, “I can’t wait to be there in Vegas with all of you next year as we kick off the summer of Superman. I also wanted to thank all of you for your efforts in making Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 a hit.” It is unclear what “Summer of Superman” exactly entails, but it might be a marketing campaign for the film during which the fans may meet the cast of the Superman film at the prestigious convention.

The new Superman film has actor David Corenswet as Clark Kent / Superman. Rachel Brosnahan of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel fame will play Lois Lane. Skyler Gisondo will portray Jimmy Olsen. While we will see Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, and Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason/Metamorpho. Maria Gabriela de Faria is roped in to play Angela Spica/The Engineer, the only character from DC’s The Authority series who will make an appearance in the Superman universe.

Last year, while speaking to Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav spoke highly of Gunn’s Superman film and hoped that the film would make a significant profit for all stakeholders. Zaslav said, “We got James Gunn and Peter Safran working very hard on DC, which is going to be a very big growth driver for this company. We are very bullish on DC. The Superman script first draft is done. Gunn is on a mission from god. It is a really good moment to prove out on DC what we got and how strong it is globally for long-term sustainable growth.”

Back in November, soon after the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike, Gunn shared a heartening post about not delaying the release of Superman despite the months-long halt on production.

He wrote, “Thanks to the efforts of our talented crew, who never lost faith during the longest strikes in Hollywood history, and who never let their foot off the pedal, continuing to barrel forward, creating the most amazing character and set designs I’ve seen in my entire career, Superman Legacy will be making the originally planned release date of July 11, 2025.”
