The Marvel movie was headlined by Dakota Johnson as Madame Web.

Sydney Sweeney, known for her roles in hit television series like The White Lotus and Euphoria, recently experienced her first major setback with the release of Madame Web. Despite high hopes from the audience, the Marvel movie, starring Dakota Johnson in the lead, disappointed fans and critics, adding to Sony’s recent string of box office failures. While the Fifty Shades star has already voiced her opinion on the film’s negative response, Sweeney, who plays Julia Cornwall, a version of Spider-Woman, shared her perspective on the disaster. Sweeney, unfazed by the flop, maintains a positive outlook and told the Los Angeles Times that she was simply going along for the ride.

Despite the film’s dull performance, seems like Sweeney is staying focused on her upcoming projects.

She said, “I was just hired as an actress in it, so I was just along for the ride for whatever was going to happen.” The Marvel movie marked Sweeney’s third big-budget film in recent months, following her appearances in the horror thriller Immaculate and the romantic comedy Anyone But You alongside Glen Powell.

Despite the disappointed response for Madame Web, Sydney Sweeney forged a strong bond with fellow Gen Z actresses Celeste O’Connor and Isabela Merced. The trio formed a girl gang and supported each other throughout the filming process.

Earlier, Dakota Johnson, in a conversation with Bustle, revealed the failure did not shock her, “Unfortunately, I’m not surprised that this has gone down the way it has. It’s so hard to get movies made, and in these big movies that get made and it’s even starting to happen with the little ones, which is what’s really freaking me out, decisions are being made by committees, and art does not do well when it’s made by committee. I had never done anything like it before. I probably will never do anything like it again because I don’t make sense in that world.”

The actress further expressed her views on the filmmaking process and argued that movies are made by a team of creative individuals, led by the filmmaker and cannot be reduced to just box office numbers. Johnson claims audiences are intelligent, believing they need authenticity and highlighted that there has been a growing trend in the industry as producers are now underestimating audiences’ power.

Dakota Johnson’s film Madame Web earned 96 million dollars at the global box office.
