Targeting Gandhism key to BJP’s politics: Baghel

Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India]June 8 (ANI): Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Thursday hit out at the BJP, saying that targeting the Gandhi family is an integral part of its politics.

The CM made the remarks when asked to react to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s statement that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has a habit of defaming the country and making unsavory remarks about national politics on his foreign visits.

“Key to his brand of politics is targeting the Gandhi family, especially Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. They took away his (Rahul’s) MP post and made him vacate his official bungalow (in the national capital). Targeting Rahul Gandhi only goes to show that whatever he says is important and resonates with people, Baghel said.

Further, taking a dig at the Centre’s decision to increase the MSP (minimum support price) of paddy, Baghel said that last time the MSP was increased by Rs 200 per quintal, but now it has been increased by only 7 per cent.

The Chhattisgarh CM claimed that the price of diesel, petrol, farm equipment, chemical fertilizers and medicines has increased in the last five years.

Terming the Center as anti-farmer, Baghel said, it was expected that the MSP would be increased by Rs 300 as last time the government had increased it by Rs 200.

On Union Minister Giriraj Singh’s challenge to the Congress to debate on the MSP hike, the Chief Minister said he was ready for the challenge.

Baghel also demanded an increase in the MSP as per the recommendations of the Swaminathan Committee. (ANI)
